New Life An Emmaus Community

Walk To Emmaus

Corona Virus Announcement

Dear New Life Emmaus Community

We are not cancelling- but postponing..

We have such great plans for our community! Our next gathering in April was to be a day of visioning. And the May gathering was to be an exciting day of training and learning where you are interested in serving.

But after considering the recommendations concerning the COVID-19 from the CDC and from the Emmaus Ministries staff in Nashville, the NLE board has decided we will postpone our April gathering. If in four weeks the situation changes, we can still schedule a gathering in late April. If not, hopefully we can meet in the third week in May.

Please watch for further information on our webpage, and on Facebook. We will also continue to communicate through email and text, using the REMIND app.

Let us unite in praying for our country and countries across the world. God hears.

Patty Andrews

NLE Community Lay Director

p.s. Below is a message from the Upper Room/Emmaus Ministries:

The CDC has recommended that for the next 8 weeks, organizers cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the U.S.

With an abundance of caution, we suggest that all Emmaus Ministries events be cancelled for the recommended time period.

Although this is very disappointing, it is one way of showing our love and concern for one another. We encourage all community leadership to use this time to strengthen their communications with:

Reunion groups

New pilgrims

Church partners

We are with you in the midst of our disappointment and we hold each of you in our hearts and prayers. We believe that God is still present with us in both the hosting and cancelling of our events and will continue to be with us in the future.

With prayers from the Emmaus Ministries staff,

Stéphane Brooks

Walk To Emmaus: A Three-Day Spiritual Retreat

We have posted this great video from an Emmaus community in Woodlands, Texas. We believe it describes some of the feelings and sentiments of many of our own New Life family. Please take a moment to listen to their expressions of joy and thankfulness these “pilgrims” have for their Walk To Emmaus experience.

Walk To Emmaus

The Walk to Emmaus is a spiritual renewal program intended to strengthen the local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders. The program’s approach seriously considers the model of Christ’s servanthood and encourages Christ’s disciples to act in ways appropriate to being “a servant of all.”

The Walk to Emmaus experience begins with a 72-hour short course in Christianity, comprised of fifteen talks by lay and clergy on the themes of God’s grace, disciplines of Christian discipleship, and what it means to be the church. The course is wrapped in prayer and meditation, special times of worship and daily celebration of Holy Communion. The “Emmaus community,” made up of those who have attended an Emmaus weekend, support the 72-hour experience with a prayer vigil, by preparing and serving meals, and other acts of love and self-giving. The Emmaus Walk typically begins Thursday evening and concludes Sunday evening. Men and women attend separate weekends.

During and after the three days, Emmaus leaders encourage participants to meet regularly in small groups. The members of the small groups challenge and support one another in faithful living. Participants seek to Christianize their environments of family, job, and community through the ministry of their congregations. The three-day Emmaus experience and follow-up groups strengthen and renew Christian people as disciples of Jesus Christ and as active members of the body of Christ in mission to the world.

Who Should Go On An Emmaus Walk

Emmaus is for the development of Christian leaders who:

  • Are members of a local church
  • Have a desire to strengthen their spiritual lives
  • May have unanswered questions about their faith
  • Understand that being a Christian involves responsibility
  • Are willing to dedicate their everyday lives to God in an ongoing manner
